Description

This is a DAR Rope Edge “Eiffel” Armchair in Elephant Hide Grey, initially designed by Ray and Charles Eames in 1949. This very early 1st Generation production dates to C. 1950 and retains its Zenith Plastics stamp. The piece has threaded feet, a rope edge, and an original Eiffel tower base in zinc-plated steel. The abbreviated Eames DAR Chair stood for the Eames Dining (D) height, Arm (A) Chair, on Rod (R) Base.

This chair measures 24 inches deep, 24.875 inches wide, and 31.5 inches high. The seat height is 17.875 inches, and the arm height is 27 inches. We have intentionally left this important piece in its original condition. There is some patina on the zinc steel frame, and the fiberglass shows wear. It retains its original protruding 1st generation splayed aluminum glide feet. Overall, this chair is in very good condition. Please see photos.
